strategies to assist parents across the state. We also have numerous publications and tools on a wide range of topics.
Parents as Teachers (PAT) is a parent education and family support program, serving families throughout pregnancy until kindergarten entry. This research-based program is designed to enhance child development and school achievement through parent engagement that is free and accessible to all families in six communities in Wyoming.
PAT program goals:
- Increase parent’s knowledge of child development.
- Increase parent’s feelings of competence and confidence.
- Enhance parenting skills and parent-child interaction.
- Provide early detection of developmental issues.
- Develop strong partnerships between parents and schools.
- Increase children’s school readiness and school success.
PAT is a voluntary program that provides families with the opportunity to receive:
- Personal visits- which occur weekly, bi-weekly or monthly based on the family's needs.
- Group Meetings- parent group meetings that are informational and or interactive in nature.
- Screenings- periodic screenings for early identification of developmental delays or health, vision and hearing problems.
- Resource and Referrals- linking families to needed resources and helping them overcome barriers to accessing those services.
PEN also serves as the Wyoming PAT State Systems Office which aims to:
- Support the Parents as Teachers National Center vision, mission and core values by dedicating ourselves to building high quality PAT programs within the state.
